This article applies to the following products:
Envoy™ 16
Envoy™ 32
Introduction
Congratulations and thank you for purchasing a LapSafe® Envoy™ smart locker solution.
This document will guide you through our recommendations for the initial hardware set up and correct use of the product.Important Actions
Upon delivery of your new Envoy™ Locker(s) you must:
- Take note and store in a safe place your product serial number which can be found on a silver plate on the front-left hand side of the unit The serial number will begin with "ENV". You will need to quote this number for all enquiries relating to your Envoy™.
- Take note of your key number(s) located on the key itself and store this in a secure place. You will need this if you wish to order additional keys.
- Visit lapsafe.com/activate to activate your Lifetime Warranty. Your warranty will not be valid unless you do this.
- Read the section on ‘Health & Safety’.
Overview
Your Envoy™ is supplied fully assembled, tested and ready for installation of your AC adaptors (if required) and placing your unit in position.
Each Envoy™ has 4 security screws for access to the middle compartment. A security tool to remove and replace these is provided. There are two power configurations for both Envoy™ models.
AC Power
The middle or left hand screen compartment contains the power sockets for your AC adapters and there is a manufacturing option to have Euro power sockets. The power to the sockets is controlled through a Power Management Cassette that is fixed in the top of the middle compartment of your Envoy™.
USB-C Smart Charging
The middle or left hand screen compartment contains power banks with a series of USB-C charging leads that are threaded through to each bay. USB-C Envoy™ models have LED displays located above the locker bay units, which indicate the charge status of the devices inside.
Your Envoy™ is supplied with a 2 metre mains lead.
Locker bay charging lights explained:
LED Visual Colour Display Description Red Static Battery is charging Green Static Battery is fully charged and power is still being provided No light - No device connected/device is not connected properly Power Sockets:
For Envoys with AC Power configuration, the locker power sockets are housed in the middle (left for Envoy 16) compartment and they are designed to provide power for small loads up to a maximum of 90 watts per socket (nominal rating of the AC adapter).
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A HEAVY LOAD BE PLUGGED INTO A SOCKET.For Envoys with USB-C charging configuration, the USB-C power bank(s) are housed in the middle or left screen compartment.
Power Management Cassette:
The power management cassette in the top of your Envoy™ 32 may get warm when it is handling a significant electrical load for a period and this, in turn, may make the top of the locker feel warm to the touch. This is completely normal and will cool down when the power demand reduces.
Thermal Trip:
In the United Kingdom the detachable mains lead carries a fuse for the protection of users.
If your Envoy™ 32 has been installed with no fused wall plug, the power management cassette also has a resettable thermal trip. This trip acts in much the same way as a fuse to protect users and it can be re-set.
The thermal trip is mounted on the back edge of the power management cassette in the top of the side compartment. When the trip has operated there will be no power to the sockets and the centre button of the trip will be extend by approximately 12mm. In the event of a trip:- First switch off the power supply and then check if the reason for the tripping is apparent and If possible, correct the issue.
- Allow at least 60 seconds after it has tripped and do not reset the trip with the mains power switched on.
-
Press the centre of the button back into the trip. When re-set the button will stay pressed in when you release your finger. See images below
Figure 1: Thermal trip location Figure 2: Thermal trip release button - Restore power to the power cassette and check that the trip remains set.
- If the trip operates again, you should first switch off the mains and then switch off or unplug everything in the locker sockets.
- Re-set the trip (items 2 and 3 above).
- Restore power to the power cassette and check that the trip remains set.
- Then, one by one, re-plug everything into the locker sockets, switch on and check that the trip remains set.
If the trip will not re-set or it continues to trip, there may still be a fault somewhere or the trip may have developed a fault so please telephone us and ask for our customer support desk on 01787 226166 or 0800 130 3456.
Positioning
The Envoy™ 32 is floor standing and should be 75mm away from the wall, this will allow the air flow out from the fan on the back of the unit. The unit is designed to only work indoors.
Installing AC adapters
First disconnect the unit from the mains power.
- Remove the front service compartment door by unlocking the screen compartment. This is done by using the CAMLock style key supplied with your locker. The key is inserted at the 12 o'clock positioned, and turned 90 degrees to the 3 o'clock position to unlock the service door. The key is held captive in this position and can be left in the lock.
- On some older envoy units, the service compartment screen door does not have a lock and is held in place by 4 screws located in each corner of the screen door. Unscrew these carefully to remove the door.
- There is an earth strap on the left-hand side near the top of the door which will need to be disconnected by pulling the connector off the tab (this connection must be reinstated when the door is replaced).
- Gently lift the door out and place it to one side and be careful not to damage the leads which are connected to the screen (HDMI and Power). If you wish to remove the door fully and out of the way then cut the cable tie that is securing the two leads to the screen and unplug them (these connections will need to be reinstated when the door is replaced).
- If you place the door down, ensure that it is stable and not at risk of falling. If it does fall, you will risk damaging the screen and RFID reader.
-
With the door removed the sockets and AC adapter storage shelves can be accessed. The next step depends on what type of AC adapters you are installing into your Envoy. Some AC adapters can be described as 'in-plug' where they plug directly into the socket and the charging lead goes directly to the device. Others are described as 'in-line' where they have a mains lead between the power socket and the AC adapter, and then a charging lead going to the device.
Figure 3: In-plug AC Adapter Figure 4: In-line AC Adapter -
- ‘In-plug’ AC adapters can be plugged directly into the sockets and the charging lead passed through the grommeted holes at the front of the locker.
- ‘In-line’ AC adapters can be loaded onto the shelves and secured behind the elastic strap before passing the charging leads through the grommeted holes and plugging the power leads into the sockets.
Figure 5: Grommeted holes for charging leads to pass through - Positioning the charging leads: Open the front door of the locker using an example of the device that is to be stored/charged, consider the length of the charging lead available for the end users. Using a cable tie tighten the cable so that it cannot be pulled through into the bay. Feed the excess cable into the charging compartment.
-
Front Door Operation: Once the door lock is released the hinge allows the locker door to swing through approximately 150 degrees until it meets the side of the locker.
Do not let go of the door while it is moving and do not force the door in either direction. Both actions could damage the door or the locker chassis.
USB-C Smart Charging
First disconnect the unit from the mains power.
- Remove the front service compartment door by unlocking the screen compartment. This is done by using the CAMLock style key supplied with your locker. The key is inserted at the 12 o'clock position, and turned 90 degress to the 3 o'clock postion to unlock the service door. The key is held captive in this postion and can be left in the lock.
- On some older Envoy™ units, the service compartment screen door does not have a lock and is held in place by 4 screws located in each corner of the screen door. Unscrew these carefully to remove the door.
- There will be USB-C to USB-C charging leads provided in bags inside the service area of the unit. Remove the cables from the packaging.
-
The USB-C power bank(s) are mounted in vertical brackets. The numbered charging ports are facing towards the front of the unit. The charging port numbers correspond with the bay numbers on the unit (i.e charging port 1 goes to locker bay 1, charging port 12 goes to locker bay 12 etc.)
Figure 6: USB-C power bank with numbered ports -
Positioning the charging leads: Plug the charging leads into the power bank in order, starting from the top (port 1). On an Envoy™ 32, the leftmost power bank has ports for bays 1-16, the rightmost power bank has ports for bays 17-32.
- Plug the straight USB-C connectors into the power bank, leaving the right angled connectors available to connect the devices too.
- Thread the cables through onto each shelf
-
Place the devices into the lockers, and plug the devices in. Check that the LED display for the locker above the bay doors turns on when the device is plugged in.

ONARKEN Locker Software
The Envoy™ comes with ONARKEN locker software pre-installed and ready to use. This is operated from a MIFARE RFID reader and displayed on a 7" LCD screen, positioned within convenient reach and compliant with DDA and EN 301 549 requirements. No server applications are needed on the locker PC to set up or run the software. The ONARKEN software is operated by using the MIFARE RFID reader. For a guide on basic functions and setting up the ONARKEN locker software, several guides will be released in due course.
Note: some ONARKEN® asset workflows on touchscreen smart lockers are not supported on Envoy™ lockers.
Cleaning
Do:
- Your Envoy™ has a powder coat finish which is very durable and can be wiped clean using a mildly soapy cloth.
- To remove more stubborn marks or perhaps an adhesive residue you can use a gentle solvent such as white spirit or a mild solvent-based cleaner.
Do Not:
- Do not soak any areas of the locker
- Do not get the power cassette, cooling fans, locker sockets, or charging cables wet
- Do not soak any area with solvent
- Do not use solvent cleaners on the locks
Cleaning of fans
Your Envoy™ unit has a thermostatically controlled fan in top rear section of the screen terminal section. Under normal operating temperatures, the fan is off. The fan will come on when the locker tower exceeds a pre-set temperature and continue to run until the temperature lowers below its lower set point. If the temperature rises, the unit will shut down automatically and sound an audible alarm.
Over time, dust and debris can partially block the fan filter and ventilation holes, preventing maximum airflow and causing the unit to not cool as expected.
Therefore, it is recommended that the fan filter and ventilation holes be checked and cleaned at least once every three months or if you suspect an increase in normal running temperature or if the unit shuts down.
The ventilation holes through the plinth, the rear of the locker bays and the central fan in the service area of the Envoy™ must not be obstructed, allowing air to circulate. The fan at the top of each section is temperature controlled and may not run for periods of time.
Should heat build up within any of the locker bay sections of the Envoy™ and exceed a pre-set temperature (approx 36°C) the charging will cease within that section until the temperature falls back to acceptable limits. When the temperature exceeds the limit, the power management LED’s on the front of that particular unit will flash until it re-sets and an alarm will sound for approximately 10 seconds.
To clean the fan and ventilation holes, carefully agitate the dust with a suitable dry brush and extract the loose particles with a vacuum cleaner. Additionally, the ventilation holes can be wiped with a "damp" (not wet) cloth. Do not use a damp (or wet) cloth on the fan housing, as the primary charging electrics are below.
Disconnecting your Unit from the Mains Supply
Your Envoy™ unit is connected to the mains supply via a standard 3-pin power cord. Depending upon your installation's power specification will determine how you can isolate the unit from the main electrical supply.
13amp Mains Plug (non-Switched): Remove the plug from the socket.
13amp Mains Plug (Switched): Switch OFF the outlet and remove the plug from the socket.
Switching On
To switch the PC and screen on, open the service door of the User Screen Interface section (USI) and operate the PC's ON/OFF switch. The PC is fitted on the floor of the USI. The power LED on the top panel will illuminate to confirm the power is on.
It will take a few seconds for the Software to load up. The System will boot directly into the LapSafe® ONARKEN® locker software self-service application.
When the system is booting up you will hear the MIFARE RFID reader beep, this is normal.

Health & Safety
All products manufactured by LapSafe® have been thoroughly tested and certified by an authorised and INDEPENDENT testing house before sale. Full CE and UKCA compliance, which includes the requirements of LVD and EMC directives, is a STANDARD FEATURE of any solution manufactured by LapSafe®, as are many more built in safety features. CE and UKCA Marking can be found on the product serial number plate, usually at the lower rear of the cabinet. A CE/UKCA Declaration of Conformity Certificate is issued with each product in the User Guide Pack, and is viewable in this online manual.
Please review the following safety information:
- At no time is the front service door of the locker to be opened by anyone other than an authorised person.
- Always keep the locker bays locked and closed when the locker is idle or not in use.
-
At no time should anyone attempt to physically lift the locker, as this could cause injury to the persons concerned and even damage to the locker, which will invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty. Should the movement of the locker require this type of action, you are advised to seek advice from the authorised
person. In such circumstances, the matter should be referred to LapSafe® for consultation and advice.
The above list is not exhaustive.
Contact LapSafe® should you have any concerns.
Network Connectivity
If using a wired network connection, the unit will require a network socket behind the installation. This will then be wired into an RJ45 coupler fitted in the bottom of the back of the screen unit specifically (ethernet cable supplied).
Envoy™ lockers can also be fitted with a Wi-Fi or 4G/5G antenna at additional cost.
Depending on how you intend to have organised your installation may help you best plan where the socket will be positioned. We recommend having your screen unit positioned in the middle of your install, however the choice is yours.
