How do I set how long assets can be borrowed for?

Note: If you are connecting ONARKEN to your Library Management System (LMS), the loan duration configured in ONARKEN will not apply. Instead, the loan duration is controlled directly within your LMS. Please ensure that the LMS settings align with your organisational requirements.

Loan durations in ONARKEN are controlled through Loan Rules, which allow administrators to define and manage asset loan policies. These rules govern the loan duration, handle late returns, and specify actions upon asset return.

With ONARKEN, you can create multiple Loan Rules tailored to different scenarios and assign them to various Asset Types. Users can even select from multiple rules if an asset type supports options like short-term or long-term loans.

Permissions Required

• Modify Existing Rules: You must have the loan_rules.edit permission.
• Create New Rules: You must have the loan_rules.create permission.

Modifying an Existing Loan Rule Duration

To adjust the duration of an existing Loan Rule, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the ONARKEN Management Platform.
   Use your credentials to access the system.
   
   

2. Access the Loan Rules Tab.
   Navigate to Loaning -> Loan Rules.
   
   

3. Select the Rule to Edit.
   Click the arrow icon next to the Loan Rule you wish to modify.
   
   

4. Update the Loan Duration.
   Scroll to the Loan Duration section and adjust the Days, Hours, and Minutes fields.
   
   

5. Save Changes.
   Click Save to apply the updated loan duration.

Creating a New Loan Rule

To create a new Loan Rule, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the ONARKEN Management Platform.
   Use your credentials to access the system.
   
   

2. Access the Loan Rules Tab.
   Navigate to Loaning -> Loan Rules.
   
   

3. Create a New Rule.
   Click New Loan Rule and enter a name for the rule.
   
   

4. Set the Loan Duration.
   Specify the loan duration using the Days, Hours, and Minutes fields.
   
   

5. Save the New Rule.
   Click Create to finalise the new Loan Rule.

Assigning Asset Types to a Loan Rule

To associate Asset Types with a Loan Rule, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the ONARKEN Management Platform.
   Use your credentials to access the system.
   
   

2. Access the Loan Rules Tab.
   Navigate to Loaning -> Loan Rules.
   
   

3. Select the Rule to Edit.
   Click the arrow icon next to the Loan Rule you wish to modify.
   
   

4. Assign Asset Types.
   Scroll to the Asset Types section and click the Add button next to each Asset Type you want to associate with the rule.
