Overview
Introduction
This guide will take you through the steps to install your LapSafe® ChargeLite™ Desk.
Getting started
There are ventilation holes through the sides of the ChargeLite™ Desk, and care must be taken that none of these holes are obstructed.
The front doors of your ChargeLite™ Desk are unlocked using the key with the white key cover, and the rear panel can be removed by removing the 10 screws around the edge of the panel (See the Installation Section for more details).
The front doors are for everyday working access to the cabinet. The key can be removed once the door is open, this will prevent the door from closing fully whilst it is unlocked.
The rear panel should not be considered as day-to-day access to the cabinet but used for initial setup by a responsible/authorised person.
Charge Only Set Up
Please ensure the cabinet is unplugged when you are loading AC adaptors in the ChargeLite™.
-
Open both front doors and remove rear panel (See install guide)
Figure 3: Rear view of Chargelite™ Desk -
You will find power strips for your AC adaptors in the rear compartment
Figure 4: Opened service area of AC ChargeLite™ Desk showing power strips - Some AC adaptors can be described as ‘in-plug’ where they plug directly into a socket and the charging lead goes directly to the device, and others can be described as ‘in-line’ where they have a mains lead between the power socket and the AC adaptor and then a charging lead going to the device.
- For ‘in-plug’ AC adaptors simply pass the charging lead onto a shelf.
-
If you are using ‘in-line’ AC adaptors you have the choice to pass the mains onto the shelf and place the adaptor on the shelf with your devices or to leave the AC adaptor in the rear compartment and just pass the charging lead onto the shelf.
We provide both cable ties and cable clips to help with cable management and we recommend that the charging lead is secured to the shelf in a suitable position in order to prevent it being pushed off the shelf.
Repeat these steps until your desk unit is fully loaded.NOTE: Maximum loading 100Watt (rated capacity) per socket. (400Watts (rated capacity) per power strip).
As standard, Type G UK power sockets are installed, but there is a manufacturing option to have Type C/Type F Schuko Euro power sockets.
USB-C Smart Charge Set Up
- Open both front doors and remove rear panel (See install guide)
- You will find the USB-C power bank installed vertically in the back.
-
There will be USB-C to USB-C charging leads provided in box(es) inside the rear service area of the unit. Remove the cables from the packaging.

Unpack the cable clips
Figure 7: USB-C Cable clip bag -
Install the white cable clips into the bays by pushing them into the holes provided at the front of the shelves. Different positions are available in holes at the sides and centre of the locker bays.
Figure 7: Installing USB-C Cable Clips -
Plug the straight USB-C connectors into the the power banks, leaving the right angled connectors available to connect the devices too.
Figure 8: Plugging charging leads into the power bank - Thread the cables through the mounting bracket onto the shelves. Then thread them through the white clips you placed previously
-
These clips hold the cables in place and stop the leads from being pushed off the shelf.
Figure 9: Threading the charging leads through the cable clips
-
- Plug the devices in. Check that the LED display turns on when the device is plugged in.
- There is a charge status indicator bar with a series of LED lights located above the left door of the ChargeLite™. The LED's on this bar should turn on and display the following:
- The LED is turned off when no device is plugged in/charging
- The LED is red when the device is charging
- The LED is green when the device is fully charged or near full charge.
- The USB-C charging cables also have LEDs at the ends of the USB-C connectors
- The LED on the USB-C charge cable is red when the device is charging
- The LED on the charge cable is blue when the device is fully charged
- There is a charge status indicator bar with a series of LED lights located above the left door of the ChargeLite™. The LED's on this bar should turn on and display the following:
Thermal Trip
In the United Kingdom the detachable mains lead carries a fuse for the protection of users.
In the event that your ChargeLite™ Desk has been installed with no wall plug the power management cassette also has a resettable thermal trip. This trip acts in much the same way as a fuse to protect users and it can be re-set. The thermal trip is mounted on the back edge of the power management cassette in the top of the side compartment.
When the trip has operated there will be no power to the sockets and the centre button of the trip will be extend by approximately 12mm.
In the event of a trip:
- First switch off the power supply and then check if the reason for the tripping is apparent and If possible correct the issue.
- Allow at least 60 seconds after it has tripped and do not reset the trip with the mains power switched on.
- Press the centre of the button back into the trip. When re-set the button will stay pressed in when you release your finger.
- Restore power to the power cassette and check that the trip remains set.
- If the trip operates again you should first switch off the mains and then switch off or unplug everything in the locker sockets.
- Re-set the trip (items 2 and 3 above)
- Restore power to the power cassette and check that the trip remains set.
- Then, one by one, re-plug everything into the locker sockets, switch on and check that the trip remains set.
If the trip will not re-set or it continues to trip, there may still be a fault somewhere or the trip may have developed a fault. Please contact Support on (+44) 01787 226166 or support@lapsafe.com

Warranty, Care and Maintenance

- Read the Health and Safety guidelines in the user guide and share this information with all users
- Activate your warranty at on the LapSafe® website
- Unplug charging leads before removing devices out of the locker
Do Not:
- Do not leave keys in the doors
- Do not remove doors
- Do not try to modify the ChargeLite™ Desk in anyway without contacting LapSafe® first to check that it is safe to do so. If you have any queries, please contact us through any means below in the Useful Links section.
Cleaning
Do:
- Your ChargeLite™ Locker 32 has a powder coat finish which is very durable and can be wiped clean using a mildly soapy cloth.
- To remove more stubborn marks or perhaps an adhesive residue you can use a gentle solvent such as white spirit or a mild solvent-based cleaner.
Do Not:
- Do not soak any areas of the locker
- Do not get the power cassette or the locker sockets wet
- Do not soak any area with solvent
- Do not use solvent cleaners on the locks
Cleaning of fans
Depending on the model, your ChargeLite™ unit may have thermostatically controlled fan(s) in the rear panel. Under normal operating temperatures, the fan is off. The fan will come on when the unit exceeds a pre-set temperature and continue to run until the temperature lowers below its lower set point. If the temperature rises, the unit will shut down automatically and sound an audible alarm.
Over time, dust and debris can partially block the fan and ventilation holes, preventing maximum airflow and causing the unit not to cool as expected.
Therefore, it is recommended that the fan blades and ventilation holes be checked and cleaned at least once every three months or if you suspect an increase in normal running temperature or if the unit shuts down.
To clean the fan and ventilation holes, carefully agitate the dust with a suitable dry brush and extract the loose particles with a vacuum cleaner. Additionally, the ventilation holes can be wiped with a "damp" (not wet) cloth. Do not use a damp (or wet) cloth on the fan housing, as the primary charging electrics are behind.
Timer
ChargeLite Desk lockers now have a plug in timer included as standard. This allows you to set active usage periods for the locker, and not use excess power when not in use. You can locate this on the top AC adapter block. Please remove this, plug the timer into the wall and then plug the trolley charging lead into the timer.
View the timer user manual here
On initial delivery of your laptop trolley, the LCD display on the timer may not be illuminated. This is because the timer needs time to charge before use. It is recommended to charge the timer for 14 hours after the initial installation to charge the memory back-up battery.
Note: On older models, the timer was offered as an additional option.
On older ChargeLite™ trolleys, the timer can be found located behind an oval plate on the rear of the unit.
If you wish to view or download the manual for the legacy timer module, Click the link here
ChargeLite™ Options
Network Connectivity
If your trolley features network connectivity, you can plug the trolley into your network by connecting a standard network cable into the auxiliary point on the back of the trolley.
Data Transfer (DTK)
If your purchase includes DTK your trolley will be supplied with sufficient network cables to connect each device to the installed network switch.
