Positioning
Doors & Locking
The front doors are unlocked using the key with the white key cover. The front doors are for every day access to the ChargeLite™ Trolley unit. The key can be removed once the door is open and this will prevent the door from closing fully whilst it is unlocked.
For PIN or MIFARE® card access please refer to the relevant user guide (see below).
Access to the Rear Service Area
To access the sockets, USB-C power banks and power management cassette you will need to access the door on the rear of the trolley.
This can be opened using the keys with the black cover.
This door should only be used for set up and maintenance and not considered day-to-day use.
This door should only ever be accessed by and authorised person.
- Remove the power lead.
- Unlock the rear service compartment door
- Tilt the top of the door outwards.
- There is an earth strap onto the top of the door which will need to be disconnected by pulling the connector off the tab. (This connection must be reinstated when the door is replaced).
- Then gently lift the door out of its slots in the base of the trolley and place it to one side.
NOTE: The earth strap MUST be re-connected before the door is replaced.

Charging Set Up
AC Adaptor Charging Model
Ensure the trolley is unplugged when you are loading AC Adaptors in the ChargeLite™.
Remove the rear door as described in Getting Started.
You will find power strips for your AC adaptors in the back. (figure 5)
There are two styles of AC adaptor:
- In-Plug AC Adaptor - where they plug directly into a socket and the charging lead goes directly to the device (figure 6)
- In-Line AC Adaptor - where they have a mains lead between the power socket and the AC adaptor and then a charging lead going to the device. (figure 7)
‘In-Plug AC Adapters' can be plugged directly into the sockets and the changing lead passed through to the self.
‘In-Line AC Adapters' can be plugged in and the adaptor can either be secured in the rear service area or passed though onto the shelf along side your devices.
NOTE: See the section below on Positioning the Charging Leads
USB-C Charging Model
Ensure the cabinet is unplugged when you are connecting USB-C charging leads in the ChargeLite™
Remove the rear door to access the rear service area, as described in Getting Started
The USB-C power bank(s) installed in the back. (figure 8)
Unpack the USB-C to USB-C charging leads. These are provided in boxes inside the rear service area of the unit. (figure 9)
NOTE: Connect the USB-C cables the correct way:
- The straight end of the USB-C connectors plug into the the power banks. (figure 10)
- The right-angled USB-C connectors connect the devices on the shelves. Plug the straight USB-C connectors into the the power banks, leaving the right angled connectors available to connect the devices too.
- Be careful to plug in the charging leads in order starting from the top. The ports on the power bank are numbered and correspond with the charge status displays on the front of the unit.
- If your trolley has two power banks installed, start with the innermost power bank. This will have ports for bays 1-16. The outermost power bank has ports for bays 17-32
NOTE: See the section below on Positioning the Charging Leads
LED Charge Status
The LED charge status indicator bar is located above the doors of the ChargeLite™ (figure 11).
The LEDs on this bar display the following:
- OFF - The LED is turned off when no device is plugged in/charging
- RED - The LED is red when the device is charging
- GREEN - The LED is green when the device is fully charged or near full charge.
The USB-C charging cables also have LEDs at the ends of the USB-C connectors
- RED - The LED on the USB-C charge cable is red when the device is charging
- BLUE - The LED on the USB-C charge cable is blue when the device is fully charged
Positioning the Charging Leads in the Bays
This step applies for both AC Adapter Charging and USB-C Charging models.
Open the front door consider where the charging lead needs to be positioned on the shelf based on the device that is to be stored and charged.
Cable Clips
Unpack the white cable clips (figure 12). These clips hold the cables in place and stop the leads from being pushed off the shelf.
A range of positions are available at either side of the locker bays. (figure 13)
Install the white cable clips into the bays by pushing them into the holes provided at the front of the shelves. (figure 14)
Use the cable clips to secure the charging leads (figure 15)
Power Management Cassette
The power management cassette in the top of your ChargeLite™ may get warm when it is handling a significant electrical load for a period of time and this, in turn, may make the top of the locker feel warm to the touch. This is completely normal and will cool down when the power demand reduces.
Thermal Trip
In the United Kingdom the detachable mains lead carries a fuse for the protection of users.
In the event that your ChargeLite™ unit has been installed with no wall plug, the power management cassette also has a resettable thermal trip. This trip acts in much the same way as a fuse, to protect users and once tripped it can be re-set.
The thermal trip is mounted on the back edge of the power management cassette in the top of the side compartment. When the trip has operated there will be no power to the sockets and the centre button of the trip will be extend by approximately 12mm.
In the event of a trip:
- First - Switch off the power supply.
- Check if the reason for the tripping is apparent. If possible correct the issue.
- Do NOT reset the trip with the mains power switched on.
- Allow 60 seconds after it has tripped before switching the mains power on.
- Re-set the trip - Press the centre of the button back into the trip. When re-set the button will stay pressed in when you release your finger.
- Restore power to the power and check that the trip remains set.
- If the trip operates again you should first switch off the mains and then switch off and unplug everything in the locker sockets.
- Re-set the trip (as above)
- Restore power to the power and check that the trip remains set.
- Then, one by one, re-plug everything into the locker sockets, switch on and check that the trip remains set.
If the trip will not re-set or it continues to trip, there may still be a fault somewhere or the trip may have developed a fault. Please contact Support on 01787 226 166 or support@lapsafe.com
Timer
View the timer user manual here
ChargeLite™ units have a plug in timer included as standard. This allows you to set active usage periods and to prevent using excess power when needed.
You can locate the timer on the top AC Adapter block inside your unit.
Remove the timer, plug the timer into the wall and then plug the charging lead into the timer.
NOTE: The timer requires charging before initial use. When you first use the timer the LCD display may not be illuminated. It is recommended to charge the timer for 14 hours after the initial installation to charge the memory back-up battery.
Legacy Timer Model
On older models, the timer was offered as an additional option. This style of timer can be found located behind an oval plate on the rear of the unit.
You can view or download the manual for the legacy timer module here

Cleaning
Before carrying out any cleaning, or accessing the service area, disconnect the mains power.
Disconnecting the unit from the mains supply
Your ChargeLite™ unit is connected to the mains supply via a mains lead. There is an IEC connector at one end (plugs into the unit), and a 13amp mains plug at the other (plugs into the wall mains outlet).
13 amp Mains Plug (Switched)
Switch OFF the outlet and remove the plug from the socket. If access to the service area is required, you can only gain access by removing the IEC plug to ensure the unit is not plugged in.
DO:
- Your ChargeLite™ has a powder coat finish which is very durable and can be wiped clean using a mildly soapy cloth.
- To remove more stubborn marks or perhaps an adhesive residue you can use a gentle solvent such as white spirit or a mild solvent-based cleaner.
Do Not:
- Do not soak any areas of the locker
- Do not get the power cassette or the locker sockets wet
- Do not soak any area with solvent
- Do not use solvent cleaners on the locks
Cleaning Fans
Depending on the model, your ChargeLite™ unit may have thermostatically controlled fans. Under normal operating temperatures, the fan is off. The fan will come on when the unit exceeds a pre-set temperature and continue to run until the temperature lowers below its lower set point. If the temperature rises, the unit will shut down automatically and sound an audible alarm.
Over time, dust and debris can partially block the fan and ventilation holes, preventing maximum airflow and causing the unit not to cool as expected. It is recommended that the fan blades and ventilation holes be checked and cleaned at least once every three months or if you suspect an increase in normal running temperature or if the unit shuts down.
To clean the fan and ventilation holes, carefully agitate the dust with a suitable dry brush and extract the loose particles with a vacuum cleaner. Additionally, the ventilation holes can be wiped with a "damp" (not wet) cloth. Do not use a damp (or wet) cloth on the fan housing, as the primary charging electrics are behind.
Health and Safety
The ChargeLite™ Range manufactured by LapSafe® have been thoroughly tested and certified by an authorised and INDEPENDENT notified testing house before sale. Full CE and UKCA compliance, which includes the requirements of LVD and EMC directives, is a STANDARD FEATURE of any solution manufactured by LapSafe®, as are many more built in safety features. CE and UKCA Marking can be found on the product serial number plate, usually at the lower rear of the cabinet. A CE and UKCA Declaration of Conformity Certificate is issued and can be found at the foot of this document.
Please be advised of the following safety advice:
At no time is the rear service door of the trolley to be opened by anyone other than an authorised person.
At no time should anyone attempt to physically lift the trolley, as this could cause injury to the persons concerned and even damage to the trolley, which will invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty. Should the movement of the trolley require this type of action contact LapSafe® for consultation and advice.
- Always apply the wheel brakes when the trolley is parked or not in use.
- Disconnect the mains supply and stow the mains cable into the cable management provided before moving.
- Always ensure that the main power lead does not present a trip hazard when connected to the mains.
- Always ensure that the main power lead is fully extended when connected to the mains.
- The trolley should only be moved on horizontal surfaces.
- The trolley must NEVER impede access to all fire routes, fire exits and normal access routes.
- NEVER allow unauthorised access to the service doors at the rear of the unit.
The information above is not exhaustive. Contact LapSafe® should you have any concerns.
Modifications
DO NOT MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THE WIRING OF YOUR CLASSBUDDY™
The power management cassette protects both users and devices against potentially harmful in-rush currents at start up, residual currents after power down and over current when in use.
Any modification to the power management system will negate your warranty and could make your ChargeLite™ dangerous to use.
Activate Your Warranty:
